Steven Escobar Open Letter to all his Family, Partners, Colleagues and Friends: I Walk Because…‏

AIDS Walk Los Angeles 2013 Sponsor Me Steven EscobarTo all my Family, Partners, Colleagues and Friends,

As most of you know, I’ve been participating in AIDS Walk Los Angeles for the past couple years.  Not only has it been fun and rewarding, but it’s also given me the chance to give back to the community. What some of you don’t know is why raising money for AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) and other AIDS services organizations is so important to me.

Did you know that “In the United States, 1 in 5 of those infected with HIV each year is unaware of their status. Please sponsor me for the 29th annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles on Sunday, October 13. Together, we will make AIDS history.”

APLA provides crucial health and wellness services to close to thousands of men, women, and families living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, the vast majority of whom live at or below the federal poverty line.  The degree of direct services and outreach provided on a daily basis by APLA is unparalleled, and I don’t want to imagine a world without organizations like it.

When I ask of all of you to sponsor me for the AIDS Walk Los Angeles, I always think about why I give, and what motivates me to donate.  Knowing exactly where my donation is going and understanding the significant impact it has on APLA clients is the most rewarding incentive.  I really can’t thank you enough for giving to this important cause.  No matter what amount you decide to donate, your support will mean the world to me and to the millions of people affected by this disease.

About AIDS Walk Los Angeles:

Since its inception in 1985, AIDS Walk Los Angeles has benefited AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA), an AIDS service organization dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by HIV; reducing the incidence of HIV infection; and advocating for fair and effective HIV-related public policy. AIDS Walk Los Angeles makes it possible for APLA to provide urgently needed food, dental care, safe housing, and much more to people in need living with HIV/AIDS. For more information, visit apla.org.

AIDS Walk Los Angeles is one of the biggest, most diverse, and highly anticipated annual events in Los Angeles. Last year, a passionate crowd of 30,000 walkers and 2,500 volunteers raised more than $2.9 million for HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and advocacy programs. Since its inception, the event has raised more than $74 million to fight the disease in Los Angeles County, and the AIDS Walk movement has raised more than a half-billion dollars nationwide.
